top study-index prior next ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ABCC SCOPE: GLOBAL / LOCAL. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SCOPE is probably the most important cognitive dichotomy for our generation. Mankind became surprisingly efficient in the local mode, but stays at the cavern level in the global. Actually, local successes tend to turn themselves against the global situation and sometimes become global catastrophies. Let us mention the demographic explosion, the polution and destruction of the environment, the contrast between the first and the third world. They are all GLOBAL antithesis of the thesis "LOCAL technological efficiency". These global problems cannot be adequately investigated, let alone solved, unless: 1.Their dialectic nature is recognised and understood, 2.Adequate DP tools are developped to support the investigations. These tools have to function in the dialectic modus. DP tools are of course not theoretically essential. However, on the one hand the very nature of global problems involves very large amounts of data while, on the other hand, the dialectic approach to their solution involves recursive, or iterative procedures which usually represent heavy load in computation. In practice, global problems can be processed only with help of adequate DP tools. We intend to discus problems involved by the design of such tools in a future study.
