But language is the symbolic level of the model. Language is a tool, powerful ok, but still a tool of expressing what we know before having expressed it, or what we realize after having perceived an expression. It helps to clarify and structure otherwise confused knowledge, it allows complex plausibility tests, it helps recollecting structures triggered by observations or images, in cases of great preestablished confidence it releases from obligation of explicit recollection, but it still is a tool. Awareness of knowledge happens before and after the linguistic act. Language, the part of model which is the vehicle of logic, is founded in imagery and sensorium wich are the vehicles of epistemology. It is useless to talk about semantics without realising these relations: The meaning of an expression is exterior to it, it is an image. However, most semantic researchers look for it within linguistic structures. Example of good but badly interpreted relation between founding and founded-language are the 10 Commandments. The first is first because it is founding. It is not really blasphemous to call God names, indeed even to use the word 'God', it is irrational. The first Commandment refers to the awareness itself (the theological conscience) which may only be experienced and about which it is silly to try to be clever and logical. One may rationally discuss only the purport of awareness and the following Commandments are this purport. Consequently they are relative and may be overriden in justified cases. But try to tell it to a priester of an established religion. On the contrary, a prophet takes it for granted and gets usually crucified. Most problems in traditional logic are connected with the notion of truth. For us 'truth' is limited to satisfying formal rules within the symbolic (network) part of the model. Model itself is founded in universe. Therefore, besides truth, we have rigour. A meaningless, irrational or nonrigoruos proposition is neither true, nor false. It is logically indetermined. Only rigorous propositions may be true / false. Similar, but less coherent ideas are in Tarski's truth definition and Carnap's L-/F-truth. However: Tarski limits truth to sentences, thus eliminating practically all practical problems. It is as if we kept solely our network model component without bothering about its context and foundation. Now, it is founded in IMAGERY, which, in turn, is founded in SENSORIUM, etc. We may have meaningful, rational and rigorous images, before ever uttering a symbolic expression. This is the base of all creativity, but of irrational or meanigless dogmatisms as well. Logic will not help us with this distinction. Logic applied to irrationality gives witch processes. It is more fundamental to be rigorous, than true. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SOME COMMENTS ON FOUNDING. 2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Carnap is right in distinguishing F(actual)-truth and L(ogical)-truth. However, he (partially) founds F- in L-: F-true is what is true (how does one know?), but not L-true. So before deciding if someting is F-true we must be able first to decide that it is true (?) and then, that it is L-true. In virtue of what? Of taking habit for necessity, as usual. 1+1=2 is just as contingent as gravity. Rigor may sometimes appear too dry. We want our system to cover love, poetry, taste and intuition. However, we are not yet discussing model components. Rigorous, as we explained it, applies to propositions, i.e. to SYMBOLICS. Within IMAGERY we may talk of SINCERITY, within SENSORIUM about CONFORMITY. We may utter rigorous propositions about sincere love based upon conform experiences. In that sense L-true corresponds to 'consistent in SYMBOLICS', F-true corresponds to 'conform and sincere'.
